International Journal of Robotics Research

Guest edited by Jaydev P. Desai and Nicholas Ayache

Special Issue

Medical Robotics

Abstract

In recent years there has been a significant development in medical robotics from basic research to product development, evaluation, and feasibility studies. While earlier research in medical robotics was targeted towards development of computer-integrated systems for surgical interventions, it has over the years branched out to cover a wider variety of areas including image-guided therapy, rehabilitation robotics, and cellular scale manipulation. The goal of this special issue is to bring together papers in the wide area of medical robotics and share them with the robotics community at large. While clinical work is highly relevant to this area of research, this special issue will focus primarily on papers with a strong methodological component. If clinical evaluation is mentioned as a validation tool (but not a major component of the paper), that would be acceptable.

Original submissions in the area of medical robotics are encouraged. Articles relating to review of prior research, discussion of open problems, and the future of a particular area of medical robotics should be discussed with one of the guest editors before submission.

Appropriate topics for submission include, but are not limited to:

Schedule

Paper submission deadline -   February 15, 2008
Decision -   April 15, 2008
Paper with minor revisions due -   May 15, 2008
Paper with major revisions due -   June 15, 2008

All submitted manuscripts should follow the IJRR guidelines. If you have any questions pertaining to the submission process, please contact any of the following co-editors of this special issue:

Submission guidelines:

Please submit your manuscript at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ijrrInstructions for authors can be found by clicking on the "Instructions & Forms" link under the "Resources" section at the web-site: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ijrr

As per the IJRR submission guidelines, please suggest 3 pertinent reviewers, who you feel are the most knowledgeable on your topic and will provide the best review. We expect for the most part that they will be taken from your list of references, and do not represent a conflict of interest. We may or may not use one or more reviewers from this list. This request is to be taken seriously, since a poorly chosen set of reviewers will be taken as evidence of a lack of knowledge of the field and the paper will be returned.

Multimedia

The Journal also publishes Multimedia extensions. Do you have such material that could be published with your paper if it is accepted? For further details please visit: http://www.ijrr.org and click on 'Multimedia guidelines' for submission details and examples.
